How to Audition

Register To Audition
  • Fill out the Registration Form at the bottom of this page.  You will receive an email response with more information about the upcoming season and audition options.
Practice & Prepare
  • Review & download your instrument’s audition packet (found at the bottom of this page)
  • Respond to the Audition Welcome Email and choose an audition date and time or to submit a recorded audition.
  • Review our Audition Tips for information about in-person and recorded auditions.
  • Think about why you want to be in CYO and prepare to answer this question in your audition.
  • Practice! Practice! Practice!
Live Audition
  • Wear clothing appropriate for an audition.
  • Bring your music including excerpts and three (3) copies of your prepared piece.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time to check in and warm up.
Recorded Audition
  • Your recording must include both audio and visual – be sure that you are in the frame for the recording so that we can see you playing.
  • Introduce yourself with your name and indicate if you will be auditioning with the intermediate or advanced requirements. Provide a brief statement of why you would like to join CYO.
  • Before you play your personally selected audition piece, please state the name of the piece and the composer.
  • Submit your recording for review!

Audition Packets

Please carefully read all information on this page and in your specific instrument’s packet.

You may choose from two levels: Advanced and Intermediate. Advanced Packets contain more required materials and are designed for students who have experience with auditions. The Intermediate Packet is designed for students who have little or no experience with the audition process. Your choice of Advanced or Intermediate Packet will not influence the panelists’ judgment of your audition.

We encourage you to consult with your Private Instructor and School Orchestra or Band Director to decide which level Audition Packet you should select.
