Rhythms & Roots: Latin American Symphonic Music

The vibrant and diverse cultures of Latin American are represented on this program. From a Peruvian folk song originating in the Andes Mountains to the Argentinian countryside to the Mexican ballroom dance halls, these songs reflect each composer's love of their native people, culture and stories. This concert features compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim (Brazil), Carlos Chavez (Mexico), Alberto Ginastera (Argentina), Arturo Marquez (Mexico), and Daniel Robles (Peru).

One Symphonic Night: Rock the Orchestra featuring Neil Zaza

CYO pairs up with legendary guitarist and Akron native Neil Zaza for an unforgettable night of electrifying music. Neil's electric guitar mastery alongside CYO's symphonic stylings brings a whole new sound to the audience. Two generations of NEO musicians come together to bridge different genres and build a community united by music.

C-Y We Write

Students who completed CYO's composition intensive program, C-Y We Write, debut their new works at this performance. Come hear CYO chamber ensembles premiere student compositions at the quirky and always-popular Happy Dog Cafe!

Written in Sound

This final concert of the season features music written about stories originating from Japanese, Chinese and Korean cultures. Several pieces are well-known and recognizable from films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky, and Kubo and the Two Strings. We are honored to have Soon Hee Newbold's permission to perform Hangul, as she wrote this piece specifically for Gustav Dudamel's farewell concert with the L.A. Philharmonic, and we are giving only the second public performance of this piece.
