Kristopher Morron
Music Director

Kris Morron

Kris is fueled by a need to create, the joys of community and collaboration, and his desire to tell compelling stories.

As a performer, composer, arranger, educator, and business proprietor, Kris has seen all sides of the music business. He has been a member of, recorded with, and composed for award-winning groups and is a three-time nominee in the “Best Horn” category for the Cleveland Scene/Free Times Music Awards. In addition to playing the trombone, Kris also enjoys performing on the guzheng.

In addition to conducting CYO, Kris leads the Cinematic Symphony Orchestra. He also continues to write new music and record, he explores new ways to tell stories - co-writing and editing the comic book series, Peerless, composing original music for the animated short Astra Shift, and creating the web series Score Sessions.

Sarah Behal

Sarah Behal (she/her) is a conductor, music educator, performer, and passionate advocate for inclusive music-making.

Sarah brings 14 years of experience teaching band and orchestra as well as conducting musicals. Ms. Behal was Director of Orchestras at Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools for ten years before beginning her current role in Solon City Schools, where she is now in her second year teaching band, orchestra, and marching band. She is also the director of the newly-formed Cleveland Pride Orchestra. A graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University (M.A.) and the University of Mount Union (B.M.E.), Sarah has a dual primary focus in upper strings and clarinet, with additional brass performance experience in both collegiate ensembles and marching band. She is dedicated to creating innovative, student-centered performance experiences that highlight diverse composers while fostering artistry, collaboration, and personal growth.

Ian Wenz

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, flutist Ian Wenz (he/him) enjoys an active career both in performance and music education.

Ian holds both undergraduate and graduate music degrees in flute performance and attended Bowling Green State University and the University of Akron, respectively. A dedicated teacher, Ian is currently the professor of Flute at Ashland University and teaches at the Trillium Schools of Music and for Lakewood City Schools as a private flute instructor. Ian has performed as a soloist and currently as principal flute with the Cleveland Repertory Orchestra, in the Cleveland Winds, the Cleveland Pride Band, the VoxMix chamber ensemble and as a substitute flute/piccolo player in the Ashland symphony.
Outside of music Ian enjoys co-leading a Cleveland based running group, backpacking in the mountains, travel, and serves as a behavioral health specialist for a community mental health agency.
Orchestra Manager

Sarah Welty

Sarah returns to her roots and brings her musical and business expertise together in her role as Orchestra Manager.

A Cleveland native, Sarah Welty studied piano performance under Dr. John Venesile and Dr. John Petrone. As a trumpeter, she has worked as a bugler for the VFW and performed with the Parma Orchestra. After teaching beginning pianists for several years, she entered the corporate world, finding professional fulfillment in guiding her teams to deliver simplified, modern, sustainable solutions and services which reduce the cognitive load of the physical and digital tools with which frontline employees are equipped. She is thrilled to bring her musical and business worlds together in her role with CYO. Sarah lives in Cleveland with her two sons and her two tuxedo cats.
Violin Faculty

Victor Beyens

One of Northeast Ohio’s most versatile violinists, Victor Beyens is currently the concertmaster of the Mansfield Symphony as well as assistant concertmaster of the Firelands symphony and assistant principal second of the Cleveland Pops orchestra.

Victor is an active member of Opus 216, an eclectic group of musicians who perform a variety of repertoire and genres in the Cleveland area for a multitude of public and private events. He also performs many house concerts and private events with M.U.S.i.C. (Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics), with whom he also served as a board member.
Victor has recently performed a variety of concerti as a soloist with the Mansfield Symphony, Chagrin Falls studio orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. He has also performed in the violin sections of the Phoenix Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony, Erie Philarmonic, and several others. He was the concertmaster (as well as principal second) of the National Repertory Orchestra and of the Cleveland Institute of Music orchestra. Victor has worked with Cleveland based new music ensemble Ars Futura to perform and record music by contemporary composers.
Victor’s ability to create and arrange repertoire of all genres, specifically pop and rock music, has led him to collaborations with members of Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beach Boys, the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Andrea Boccelli, Eric Bergen, Carl Baldassarre, Mark Boals, Connor Bogart O’Brien, Mark O’Connor, and many other local and national acts. He can currently be seen as the lead violinist in the Baldassarre Orchestra, a group mostly featuring progressive rock. Victor is equally comfortable playing rock and jazz on electric violin as classical music on a traditional instrument.
Percussion Faculty

Hunter Wirt

A versatile performer of orchestral, chamber, and contemporary works, Hunter holds positions as a percussionist with both the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Ashland Symphony Orchestra.

Hunter Wirt is a percussionist and educator based in Cleveland, OH. He earned his Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Marc Damoulakis and Paul Yancich, and currently continues there as the Robinson Orchestral Fellow. He received his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from George Mason University, studying with John Kilkenny, Jon Bisesi, John Spirtas, and Jon Rance.
A versatile performer of orchestral, chamber, and contemporary works, Hunter holds positions as a percussionist with both the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Ashland Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a substitute percussionist with The Cleveland Orchestra, West Virginia Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, and has appeared as guest principal timpanist with the Lima Symphony, Mansfield Symphony, and Ohio Valley Symphony. A recent career highlight includes being named a finalist for “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. An advocate for new music, he has collaborated with composers such as Joan Tower, Nico Muhly, Avner Dorman, and Margret Brouwer.
As an educator, Hunter emphasizes the connection between musical and personal growth. He teaches at the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Academy, the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and Bay Village Middle School, mentoring students through private lessons, masterclasses, and ensemble rehearsals. Before moving to Cleveland, he served as a percussion instructor and front ensemble technician for several Fairfax County high schools.
Outside of music, Hunter enjoys hiking, fishing, crabbing, and sharing good meals with friends.
Alice Hardy-Evans
Educational Assistant

Alice Hardy-Evans

As a cellist with no boundaries, Alice plays and explores all musical genres with focus on jazz, neo-soul and improvisational music.

Alice is a cellist and recent music therapy graduate of the Berklee College of Music. She is an alumna of Contemporary Youth Orchestra, seasons 20-24. Alice is currently completing a Music Therapy internship with Beyond Words in North Royalton.
Bass Faculty

Patricia Johnston

Patricia Johnston is a freelance double bassist in NE Ohio, and she is currently the principal bassist with Suburban Symphony Orchestra and Summit Choral Chamber Orchestra.

Patricia has enjoyed performances as a sub with Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra, and Wooster Symphony Orchestra. Patricia maintains a full studio of private students, and offers regular sectional coaching to area schools. Having the
opportunity to be the double bass coach for the Contemporary Youth Orchestra has been such a joy and honor.

Prior to Ohio, Patricia was a contract musician with Bach Festival Orchestra in Winter Park and Orlando Symphony Orchestra, and also received calls to sub with The Venice Symphony and The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra.

Patricia started on the double bass at age nine and studied with amazing teachers over the years, starting with Chris Haff at CIM as well as Curtis Burris at Chautauqua Institute. Then her
undergraduate studies were with Virginia Dixon at Wheaton College and David Young at the Colburn School of Music, followed by graduate studies with Robert Kassinger of the CSO at DePaul University.

Patricia lives in Broadview Heights with her husband, two sons, and giant St. Berdoodle. She and her husband, who performed with Cirque du Soleil for many years, formed an acoustic bass
and guitar duo during COVID. Being both musicians and raising two boys, life is a constant balancing act of music and family, and when lucky... both at the same time!
