A NEW EXPERIENCE
Here, we make new music. We put our heads and hands and hearts into it. And we share it with excitement, energy and joy.
RANGE OF EXPERIENCES
Our musicians are involved in all aspects of the entertainment industry. Professionally run rehearsals, recording sessions, performances, collaborations with composers, guest artists and film crews. They gain confidence to pursue a career in the creative industries.
MUSIC AND ITS INDUSTRY
CYO artists learn what it's like to be a professional musician thanks to our annual concert series, Music and It's Industry. Students have been in Broadway orchestra pits, motion picture soundtrack crews, and cartoon recording sessions.
We're on a mission to provide our viewing and listening audience with a new experience. Don't let our name fool you: We're youthful in energy and passion, but professional in quality, delivery, and repertoire. Buy tickets here.
CYO is different because we perform with history's greatest music legends and the world's most up-and-coming acts.
CYO INVENTED THIS TYPE OF COLLABORATION.
And we guarantee that you've never experienced anything like it. Every year, we invite the world's biggest music legends to share the stage with our amazing musicians.
Graham Nash, Ben Folds, Styx, Pat Benatar, and Jon Anderson and many more have shared the stage with CYO. The ever-growing list gets more impressive every season and we're not even close to being done.
AN INVOLVED FOUNDER
CYO is different because our Founder and Executive Director Liza Grossman is still deeply involved with our organization.
THE BEST EDUCATOR IN THE BUSINESS.
STRAD magazine called Liza “a master of tutelage...” That’s an understatement. Her student musicians are the real beneficiaries of her skill with the stick and the score. They don’t just get excited to perform - they learn; they grow; they flourish.
Her energy is radiant and infectious and she gives it freely to every student in her orchestras. She is the founding Music Director of the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, has been conducting faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts and co-founder of the Interlochen Arts Camp Junior Advanced String Institute, Kent State University, and Cleveland State University. She is the Tour Conductor for Styx and has conducted orchestras including the Jacksonville Symphony and the Nashville Symphony.
Liza has worked with some pretty amazing people in some spectacular places, too: Blossom Music Center. Severance Hall. Nautica Stage. Interlochen. Liza has conducted major artists performing major works on these stages and more, including 20 world-premiere concertos performed by members of the Cleveland Orchestra, nationally recognized musicians and prominent jazz artists. She has conducted more than 300 orchestral world premieres, all with the composers present, including Bernard Rands, Robert Ward and Joan Tower.
