The Contemporary Youth Orchestra focuses on creating and performing new music and providing students with a professional kind of musical training. CYO is a symphony orchestra, but it transcends the traditional and prepares young musicians for music, and life, in the real world.
CYO had its first rehearsal in 1995. Conductor and founder Liza Grossman stood in front of a small group of eager young musicians, lifted her baton, brought it down and it was on. CYO has been in go mode ever since, with a vision to excite the imagination with every concert and every season.
CYO inspires new works, including 51 commissions, 47 new work collaborations for Music and Its Industry and 116 new Rock songs.
