GETTIN' TO KNOW CYO: MEET GEORGIA HOPPS-WEBER!

Junior Georgia Hopps-Weber is always on the go--whether it's competing on her high school's gymnastic team, pole vaulting on the track team or playing bass in our orchestra! Check out her playlist, which of course features her favorite band, Never Shout Never!

GEORGIA HOPPS-WEBER / JUNIOR / TWO YEAR MEMBER

What made you want to play the bass?

My sister played the violin and I hated how high pitched it was, but I wanted to be in orchestra. So I decided that I should play the string instrument that was the polar opposite of the violin. Maybe not the best reasoning, but I was in fourth grade, so what can I say?

Outside of playing music, what do you like to do?

I like to do a lot of things! I've enjoyed doing gymnastics since I was really little and I started pole vaulting freshman year and now do that year-round as well. Pole vault is so much fun! I was JV SWS conference champion last year and I did really well at some varsity meets last year, too.  I also like school, particularly science and math classes. I've always been a bit of a nerd and enjoy taking the hardest classes my school offers. And I really enjoy knitting, drawing, and listening to music.

How long have you been practicing gymnastics?

I have been doing gymnastics since I was 5. I've loved doing it, but I mostly do it for fun now and I enjoy competing on my high school's team. I got a nearly perfect vault score last year and that felt pretty great!

If you could be any animal, what would you be?

I would definitely not be a snake because they don't have arms so it would be incredibly difficult to function. I think I wouldn't mind being a cat, since they just get to run around and sleep. Being a giraffe wouldn't be bad either; they can reach like anything and look really cool.

What's the best part about being involved in CYO?

CYO is different than any other orchestra I've been in and I love every bit of it. I think the best part of being in CYO is the variety of music we play and the musicians we play with. Everyone in CYO is so fun to be around and the music is a lot more interesting than anything we play at school. I absolutely loved the Graham Nash concert and the APMAs were so much fun! Getting to meet some of my favorite bands and playing with them was incredible and CYO made that happen. I also like being able to tell people that I have four hour rehearsals and I have to stand the whole time. They usually find that impressive.

What's your favorite thing to do in Cleveland?

I love going to the art museum!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life I would probably choose sandwiches. They're a perfect mix of veggies and meat and they're filling! BLTs are my favorite.

Who is your favorite band?

I have so many favorite bands, but if I had to choose one it would probably be Never Shout Never. Twenty One Pilots, Panic! At the Disco and Simple Plan are up there, too.

What's a secret talent that you have?

I can touch my tongue to my nose like really well! I can also drink a lot more water in a day than most people can. Neither of those are very good talents, but I can't think of any others.
